  • This appears to be a hot topic amongst followers of the Mythos, so let me touch on this subject and clear up the obscurity behind it. Since I first joined in September of 2014, I have researched thoroughly about everything The Slender Man Mythos has to entail. But, one thing has always stood out to me: the proxies. Especially since it is a main focus of my game, The Chaser.

So, what exactly is a Proxy?

This is my comprehension of what a proxy is:

A Proxy, in my humble opinion, is a genetically modified human being. Their abilities depend on their purpose to SM. As in usual cases, they do not have emotions or views. They exclusively coexist to serve SM. How, you ask? Death, reanimation and telekinesis. They die as a human being, but are reanimated and what remains is controlled by SM himself. His intentions fuel their powers and actions.

Think of it like playing a game of 'fetch' with your dog. You throw the ball, the dog obeys and brings it back. SM orders his proxies to do something, and his proxies are given the abilities needed to carry them out. Once they are finished they are 'retired' and return to their normal corpse state.

    TL;DR

In short, proxies are walking corpses, telekinetically controlled by Slender Man himself. Nothing more, nothing less.

What do you guys think of this theory. Is there little to anything the proxies are? Or is there more to it than meets the eye? I am interested in hearing your thoughts. Let's discuss!

    • This theory doesn't sync with how DarkHarvest00 and TribeTwelve used the concept, where those people are alive.

The characteristics of a proxy vary from any creator's perspective. I mainly based my theory off of my knowledge of Slender: The Arrival - which is arguably part of Slender Man canon as Victor Surge himself worked on it.

However, part of this theory could attribute to The Operator's mind control ability. For the context of my theory sounds very familiar to the end of Always Watching, in which Milo is reanimated by the Operator to kill his friends, before dropping dead once again.

    • Remember that that was The Operator, so Milo wasn't a proxy. The same way one can argue that Victor Surge had a hand in The Arrival, the MH crew were the major force behind Always Watching

    • How does another unproven theory 'clear up the obscurity'?

Anyway, from their behaviour in the media that I have seen, they seem alive. In The Arrival, Kate is seen weeping before she attacks Lauren, which might imply that she is either still there (Slenderman using her actual emotions to lure in Lauren) or even capable of applying strategy (faking tears to lure in Lauren) on her own. Of course, you could argue, that Kate is just a skillfully played puppet, but I see nothing pointing towards her being dead, there is no scene that has her body lying around or anything.

Plus, Kate makes somewhat predatory noises in her Proxy-state, implying a degree of sentience.

    • What if she isn’t dead? What if Slenderman can just control her? Maybe she’s able to control only her emotions. Slenderman can control her actions but not her emotions. Well... he probably could but why do that if you can control everything else. So that would explain why she was crying.

    • I'm not very sure how Slendy controls peoples brain, but I guess he can control it all..? Just like how he can control actions he can control emotions, because at the end, both are bio-electro-chemical reactions. Therefore he changes the whole person.

"Why would he control her emotions if he can control everything else?" was your question. He would control it all, emotions included.

        Loading editor
    • Okay yeah but why would he control something so useless.

        Loading editor
    • Because emotions could interfere with the rest of his controll otherwise? They do influence body chemistry.

    • what about the other creepypastas? you know Jeff The Killer, Tikki Toby, Eyeless Jack, Laughing Jack? I am a big fan

    • I don't know much about this, but my guess is that Slenderman must control emotions so people do what he wants. The emotions are part of the sentient being, he needs to make sure they don't interefere in their doings. What if one Slendy's proxyfied person is about to do something for Slendy but the emotions of this person appear and don't let him/her do the action? Emotions are important.

They are not canonical. Not part of Slenderman's universe.

    • I mean, different stories have shown different degrees of control. Sometimes the Proxies are puppets that cannot help being controlled, but remain sentient otherwise. In other stories they are brainwashed or catatonic attack dogs. And sometimes, they have an entire personality and are basically sentient beings but their creation overwrote the original persona of the person they used to be.

They are not part of the Slenderman original mythos. If you ever see them together, it's kind of a crossover made by fans, for the fans.

      1. You don't like the Rake, out of all the Creepypastas... because he is creepy. I mean, I hope whoever came up with him feels bad for making the Rake, a Creepypasta, creepy.

      2. How are we supposed to tell you wether Zalgo and Slenderman are enemies? Canonically, they are not connected. In any fanwork, it depends on the writer. One fanfiction might paint them as friends, another one might show them as foes.

But Jeff is the one who wakes you up, just to tell you to go to sleep and then kills you, all of which makes him the greatest jerk in the meta.
