Nightmare is an extended chapter exclusive to the Anniversary Edition of Slender: The Arrival.
Overview[]
The level starts with Charles scribbling in a notebook, looking up at a few framed photos on his wall, then looking outside to see the dark silhouette of Charlie Matheson Jr. staring at him from outside his house. Slender Man appears and Charles suddenly wakes up on the floor of an old, decrepit hospital. He traverses the hospital, collecting notes from employees that hint at Slender Man's presence, while he looks for a way out. Throughout the hospital, he repeatedly sees hallucinations of his son, Charlie, ranging from Charlie crying as a normal child to stalking Charles as a proxy.
When Charles reaches the front entrance to the hospital, the doors slam shut and an alarm system sounds. After shutting the alarm off, an elevator breaks and allows him to go down into the basement. Charles encounters something invisible walking in the water of the flooded basement, chasing him as he searches for a way to open the front doors. He turns off the alarm system in the basement, resulting in the front doors being open again. He makes his way back to the front doors by climbing up some stairs to the roof, then crawling through a vent that leads downwards.
He exits the hospital and encounters Charlie again, as a normal child, but he attacks him, causing Charles to be in a dark room while multiple Slender Men appear all around him. He then wakes up in the hospital once more, but this time, there are burning words on the walls, saying "End This", "Purify", "Save Your Son", and "Cleanse With Fire". The hospital goes ablaze, and Charles wakes up to his house burning, with Slender Man's shadow creeping up on him as he dies.

Trivia[]
- This is the longest level in the game as of the Anniversary Edition.
- It was previously thought that the hospital this level takes place in was North Cross Hospital. However, evidence suggests that it may take place in the hospital of Willowbrook; a local town mentioned in a collectible associated with this chapter.
- It is one of five levels where Slender Man does not appear in the game over screen. The other four include "Flashback", "Memories", "Homestead", and "Prologue".
